The Brief

Mercury Payment Systems, an award-winning payment processing company committed to simplifying the payment chain in support of “main street” merchants, tapped MAPR in 2013 to advance the company’s communications and media relations efforts. In order to support the company’s business goals, Mercury chose MAPR to formulate and execute a successful media relations and social media strategy.

The Work

MAPR worked with Mercury’s internal PR team and other key staff members to formulate a comprehensive communications program aimed at meeting the company’s business objectives. This included distributing and pitching timely and relevant news releases, scheduling meetings at trade shows, researching and pitching new editorial opportunities, drafting blog posts, researching awards opportunities and account management.

In addition, MAPR provided Mercury executives with media training and helped position CEO Matt Taylor and other executives as thought leaders. MAPR also worked closely with Mercury to begin creating documentation, pitches and other messaging aimed at raising awareness surrounding how fast the company was growing in preparation for the company’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2014.

The Results

MAPR helped Mercury with the transition from being a private company to a publicly held one, however, through increased marketing efforts surrounding the transition, Mercury was acquired by Vantiv in 2014 before going public. In less than one year of engagement, MAPR helped Mercury secure dozens of hits in national and relevant industry publications, including Fortune, PYMNTS.com, Yahoo! Finance and 9News.
